Tell us about why you decided to open a gallery.
We opened with the goal to establish a more international presence in the Dallas gallery landscape by showing artists from all over the world, not just regional. While we do show several local artists, include Marjorie Norman Schwarz who we will be bringing to Future Fair, our goal is to exhibit them in an international context.
Tell us about a mentor you had early on in your career and what they taught you.
Our grandmother was a private art dealer in Dallas in the 1980s and 1990s. She taught us the importance of educating your clients and sharing your passion with the world.
Name a big overall lesson you've learned in running a gallery.
Patience is everything.
What is your favourite thing about your gallery space?
We have an amazing viewing room that we sometimes use as an exhibition space. It has a beautiful skylight and on a sunny day, you don't even know to turn the lights on. Everything in the space just illuminates.
Name a gallery that you admire and why.
SOCO Gallery in Charlotte, NC. Gallery owner Chandra Johnson has been such an inspiration as she has successfully introduced an international program to a city that is not New York or Los Angeles. She understands the value of educating her community and does a tremendous job with programs and outreach.
