RECURRING LIGHTS: BONOLO KAVULA, JAKE AIKMAN & JACOB VAN SCHALKWYK
Departing from its definition, Recurring Lights is an exhibition that focuses on events, thoughts, memories that happen again and again. The exhibition includes recent and new works of South African artists Bonolo Kavula, Jake Aikman and Jacob van Schalkwyk.
Together, artistic practice of Kavula, Aikman and van Schalkwyk evoke visceral and psychological responses that likely leave a disoriented residue on the viewer by the wave movement of Jake Aikman and the serial ironic geometric abstraction of Bonolo Kavula, and with the experimental inquiry into the nature of the form of van Schalkwyk. In their practice those artists are able to bring to the viewer a way to get back to reality. But this time the viewer will be back with that kind of experience, and interpretations, man's own ideas, as if a mystery is going to be unlocked, he will have just to find the Recurring Lights that the artists left behind them.
