The following text is from the Future Fair Online May 25, 2020 newsletter guest edited by Salma Tuqan:
Dear Friends,
As new realities sink in, these projects have inspired and lifted me, as I hope they might for you too.
@radioalhara has been my favourite companion during daily rituals. Launched in Bethlehem five days post lockdown, it broadcasts the sweetest world beats alongside ramblings by chefs, folk tales and musings. In a collective moment of rootedness @Infrasonica, a digital platform of non-western cultures offers contemplation on sound, silence and listening, alongside Julia Watson’s eye-opening book Lo-TEK Design by Radical Indigenism and Bruce Chatwin’s Songlines.
The effect of COVID-19 on the informal economy and those relying on daily wages is immense. Addressing this, Carlos Amorales @estudioamorales has commissioned local seamstresses to produce and distribute reusable face-masks for workers across Mexico City. The role of design in tackling today’s most urgent issues is ever more profound, a call taken up by designers, communities and citizens. @paolaantonelli and @alice.rawsthorn have been profiling this through weekly Instagram conversations on @design.emergency
There have been countless innovative and warm-hearted initiatives including: #ArtistPledge, NADA’s Gallery Relief Fund and NaTAkallam which hires refugees as online tutors and translators.
Lastly, in keeping with Delfina Foundation’s Family Lunch traditions, I’m leaving you with our first home delivery. Click here to enjoy!
Warm regards,
Salma
