Aimee Friberg Exhibitions celebrates its seven year anniversary this winter through a series of events and exhibitions reflecting on the past to imagine a more liberated future for all. Centered by Janus—the two-headed Roman deity presiding over the future and the past, transitions and doorways—CULT’s Future Fair presentation draws on its past seven years and offers a glimpse into its next seven with works by Marcela Pardo Ariza, Nasim Hantehzadeh, Amy Nathan, Soumya Netrabile, Marcus Leslie Singleton and Ruxue Zhang.

In recent years, public optimism collapsed under the weight of emboldened racial bigotry, anti-globalist populism and policy decisions that have wrought untold harm on the environment and marginalized individuals. Janus is a talisman for optimism in light of a polarized cultural climate; this group of works explores the opportunities that arise from the “new normal” the world is collectively living.
