KEVIN MCNAMEE-TWEED
Kevin McNamee-Tweed’s ceramic paintings begin with drawings incised and pressed into wet clay slabs. As they are treated with hand-mixed glazes and subjected to multiple kiln firings, the works talk to physical and material reality.
These new pieces express curiosity about how we live with images and objects. Operating on the basic assumption that pictures and material things possess animacy and sentience, McNamee-Tweed explores the act of meaning-making with his humorous, tender, and philosophical clay canvases.
Dutton is a dealer and curator of contemporary and self-taught artists who work with materials, process, and ideas in transformative, forward-looking, singular ways. Working with a diverse range of mediums, with an emphasis on painting, the gallery has placed work in significant private and institutional collections and executed large-scale acquisitions, installations, and commissions from ideas to installation. Previous spaces include Dutton on the Lower East Side, NY from 2014-2017 and Champion in Austin, TX from 2010-2013, as well as various site-specific exhibitions in unconventional spaces. Dutton has participated in art fairs including editions of NADA New York; Untitled, Miami; Spring1883, Sydney; Spring1883, Melbourne; Dallas Art Fair; Texas Contemporary, Houston; Swab Barcelona, and The Outsider Art Fair, New York.
